Planning on going to the dermatologist for acne, can you tell me what my experience could be like?

im scared! i would really like to hear some personal stories about what they do, and how it works!

as in, how do they find the right product for you?

i heard they like pop your zits, to get the stuff inside them- ew! is that true?

thank you very much!Planning on going to the dermatologist for acne, can you tell me what my experience could be like?
Hun, no worries! I am a nurse that works at a dermatologists office, and am also 19 years old and still struggle with acne myself sometimes! (Ironic, I know. Lol.) So I can definitely give you a play by play.

I call the patient (in this case that would be you) back to the room. I ask the patient what they are here for, even if the chart already says it. (Just say that you would like to begin a treatment for your acne.) Then I ask them what they have been using on the affected skin. Tell them everything! If you use proactive, clean and clear, any kind of toners, creams, gels, even moisturizers, let them know. I take down the info and leave the room, then come back with the doctor.

The doctor will then come back into the room with me and examine the skin. The doc will diagnose your type of acne- whether it be acne vulgaris, cystic acne, etc. There are several different kinds. This will help him to figure out what needs to be done. Different kinds of acne require different strengths and types of medications to treat it. They will also ask you questions about yourself, like if your skin is oily, dry, combination, etc. This is how they decide what to prescribe to you.

If you have very severe scarring and deep cysts, the doctor may do something about it right there in the exam chair. If you have a very deep, painful nodule for example, he may shoot it with a little shot of cortisone to soften it or even express it (squeeze it out) IF YOU WANT IT TO BE DONE. This would be done for your convenience and comfort and is simply given to you as an option to help relieve pain or discomfort . Most patients don't even have to worry about this.

Usually the doctor will just go over a few things with you. They will tell you to switch to a hypoallergenic soap and advise against toners and OTC gels and creams. Our doctor for instance ALWAYS recommends Dove for sensitive skin. Then he will prescribe a few medications. Most doctors do combination therapy, meaning they use more than one thing. A topical is the obvious one. Sometimes the doc will prescribe two separate topicals, sometimes just one. Pay attention when the doc tells you how to use it. Then sometimes they will prescribe an anti bacterial pill, like a doxycycline, tetracycline, or minocycline, This is an anti inflammatory and anti bacterial pill that treats your acne from within. There are a few other prescriptions your doc can give you, and they will tailor a routine specifically for you.

Sometimes the doctor will recommend something like chemical peels or blue light therapy. These are sessions that can be done at the derms office but are scheduled with an esthetician. This will require a seperate appointment and can be done in several sessions to help treat your acne. THESE are the only procedures where you will need to remove your makeup. You can wear makeup there and they will let you wash it off in the bathroom. you can bring a compact with you to step into the bathroom and reapply it if you want. YOU WON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THIS DURING YOUR APPOINTMENT. (This is only if you opt to come back at a later time and have this done.)

The doctor MAY choose to do a culture to examine the bacteria within your cysts. This will incidentally rub off some of the makeup on the cyst that he swabs, but it's not really noticeable and can be touched up on the way out. The doctor will not take off your makeup in the chair.

This is a short, professional procedure. Don't stress about it. Acne appointments are typically very easy on us nurses and not very time consuming. We LOVE these appointments and I promise they will be happy to have you. :) Also, we see everything. Disfiguring skin conditions, genital warts, people covered in skin cancers. There is no need to feel uncomfortable showing the doctor your problem areas and being totally honest. It will help to ensure you get the best treatment possible. Relax! Soon your acne will be gone and you'll have gorgeous skin that you'll love! It will all be worth it in the end I promise!Planning on going to the dermatologist for acne, can you tell me what my experience could be like?
I used to have horrible acne I can't even tell you how bad it was. I found the STA cream and bought it and it seriously cured my acne.

Like seriously IT IS GONE. I don't even have ONE LITTLE PIMPLE!!!!

After using this I can't believe it's only cheap and after you use it you won't either haha

The trips I took to the dermatologist cost me WAY more than that lol and the CRAP they gave me just made my acne worse~!!!!! uhggg... lol

Oh and it also guarantees it will cure your acne in 3 days or your money back.
